Workshop On Climate Change And Air Pollution

With an aim to aware youth on the climate change and air pollution issues and to prioritize these issue at the national and international level, Nepalese Youth for Climate Action (NYCA), Clean Energy Nepal (CEN) and Clean Air Network Nepal (CANN) organized Workshop on “Climate Change and Air Pollution” on 2nd October 2008 at ENPHO Hall Thapagaun, Kathmandu.

According to the organizers, the main objective of the workshop is to gather the youth of diverse field to discuss on issue of Climate Change and Air pollution and to aware them. Besides this the workshop was very useful to broaden and strengthen the network of Nepalese youth for climate Action.

Climate change is a current agenda and is connected to youth so it is a subject of concern, said Mr. Gopal Raj Joshi, Research Officer, Winrock International.

According to Mr. Bhushan Tuladhar, Executive Director, ENPHO, youth are very important part of our society as they are future decision makers and they can play a major role in popularizing the issue among friends, family members, peers and larger masses. Youth are future planners and back bone of nation who can influence others to bring about change.

Mr. Prashanta Khanal, Coordinator-Communication Unit NYCA highlighted on the activities and working area of NYCA.

Mr. Manjeet Dhakal, of NYCA facilitated the discussion session. This session focused on finalizing the future strategy of NYCA. During the discussion Participant focused on widening the network of NYCA all over the country. For this the participants recommend to select a “Climate ambassador” who will be effective in creating awareness and disseminitating the information on climate change allover the country. They said that there is a need of prioritization of local issue of climate change and brochure, booklet and article must be published in national languages. Participant also came us with ideas of visiting CA members’ house, sending SMS and mailing in their mail address

The program as a whole was successful in creating awareness among the participants. The best part of the program was that at the end of the participant themselves came-up with different groups to address the issues. The groups were Networking, Media and Glamorization the Climate change issue. The groups were headed by Ashis Luitel, Anil Rimal and Ujjwal Tiwari respectively They also made commitment on the individual level such as riding bicycles, managing solid waste etc to overcome the challenges of climate change.
