YOUTH IN A UNFCCC SIMULATION
Posted by NYCA Blogger on September 4, 2009
In continuation to the South Asian Youth Summit here in Dhulikhel Kavre the youth from the SAARC region and beyond participated in a mock UNFCCC simulation. The participants’ took stance on different issues related to their respective countries and affiliations, similar to that of COP meeting.
During the simulation sessions the participants represented as the different Annex I and Non Annex I countries. They all shared their national and group concerns on Climate Change, to further debate on the priorities that need to be considered during the decision making process. Also the youths participating as an audience during the session got the opportunity to intervene by sending a youth representative to put forward the youth agenda.
The failure of the simulation to reach an agreement strongly signifies the immediate need to change their position on Climate Change negotiation. The ultimate goal of the 4 day summit is to come up with a regional declaration that will lay out their vision and a more concrete negotiating text based on the Bali Action Plan.
